Antipsychiatry

SOMETIMES PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT DOES MORE HARM THAN GOOD.

This can happen when people are diagnosed and treated unnecessarily. And it can happen when people are prescribed more medicine than they actually need. Some psychiatrists such as R.D. Laing and Thomas Szasz have turned against their own profession. The movement to abolish psychiatric diagnosis and treatment is still influential and it has some good points and some bad. It would be nice, for example, to abolish schizophrenia, and not just the name; but it would be unrealistic.
